E.T. CONCENTRATORS CAR CLUB CIRCA 1964

This crest is Velle Bugden's he managed to keep it all these years, maybe there is still a jacket out there.

Doug MacDonald wearing his new jacket. We bought them at H&C for $23.50.

If we helped a motorist in distress or any such act we left behind our card.
Super heroes never thought of this.

This is a rare photo of the CARCLUB. That looks like Wayne Carver. Sure was alot of stuff around.

This is Pex and the hearse probably July 1966 some where on the 401 in Ontario. A man named L. Meredith took the picture and sent me the negative. Notice the short hair, I had to get it cut to get a summer job at Kelvinator in London.

This is what it looked like before conversion.

The Original engine. It hand an electric starter but if it was cool I had to use the crank.

This is Pex at Parkdale Pharmacy, the original store in the old house. I was on my way back to work at Maritime Motors, stopped into the drug store for a pop, and Betty snapped my picture. Can't believe that was me, now the scary look is me. but!

Donnie Mackay , Getzgears & Roger Newman on our entry in the Goldcup parade.

This is 1949 Olds that belonged to John Martin. He and his family moved to California in 1963 and John left the car at our house. The picture is taken in our backyard at 2 St. Peters Road.

This is taken at Stanford Conn. 1964, that is Ruggedknees standing to the left
.

This is Knees I think it was taken at their home on Mt Edward Road.

A newspaper ad we ran.

This is Stanford Conn. Paul Carragher is the guy in the sun glasses.

Dave Thompson , John Paul Kenny, & Ruggedknees We had travelled down to Stanford for drag races, we set up our tents by the side of the road and a State Trooper made us move. We had travelled from PEI and it was around midnight, when we woke up in the morning we were camped in the local dump.

John Paul's 38

In 1966 Knees went back to highschool, grade 11. The principal, Frank Costello (Chief) said I could go back to school also if i arrived before a certain date.
Knees sent this telegram to me. I was working at Kelvinator, where it arrived.
They said if I wanted to go they would have my pay ready by the end of the day.
This was very thoughtfull of Knees.
It took 5 days to drive home at 40 miles per hour.I used 4 gallons of 50 WT Nugold oil as well as STP.
The oil was so thick I could hardly get the hearse started. I had to use the crank the starter would not turn fast enough. The morning I left London, the brakes went. The Hearse was one of the first to have hydralic brakes. The technology was not fool proof so they had a back up system. When the hydralic brakes failed and the brake pedal was heading for the floor, it would pull on a cable similar to todays parking brakes. The cable would pull the rear brakes shoes out, causing an almost sensation of slowing down. The fact that I rarely exceeded 40 mph helped and a standard tranny came in handy.
Tks Knees

This is the "owners manual" that came with the Hearse. I bought in 1965 from Orville Phillips in Tyne Valley for $125.00. Two carloads of guys went up there that night and we pooled our money to purchase it. We drove it back to Charlottetown and met at Dairy Queen. we drove around the city for a while. I then went to Barry's Snack bar to pass time so i could sneak home without Dad seeing the Hearse. Barry and Myron Ling were there that night and got quite a kick out of the Hearse.
I parked it on the front lawn and quietly went to bed. Dad got up the next morning and as he was backing out he saw the Hearse parked under the front window. People going by were looking in thinking he had died.
.

This is an inspection sticker for the Hearse dated 1968, compulsary inspection came about 1966 I think.

This is the back of a letter that Knees sent me September 22, 1966 . The mailman got quite a suprise when he walked into the yard and saw the hearse.

Ged Burke & Rugged Knees

Knees & Russell McKearney

Knees

Knees under a car at Sanford.

This is Knees with Amy in Oregon probably 1984.
He left P.E.I. to escape the snow!

This is Pex & Gus in the living room at 2 St Peters Road, We got Gus, who was female from Ted Beer

The name E.T. Concentrators was suggested by Wayne Carver. E.T. for "elapsed time".

John Martin was killed in 1964 while on a motorcycle trip to Mexico.

Getzgears died in 1970 while in training for the military.

Rugged Knees was killed in 1985 while riding his motorcycle in Oregon.

COMING SOON!
IN 1970 RUGGED KNEES'S FATHER REG DIED.
KNEES CAME HOME TO PEI FOR THE FUNERAL.
I OFFERED TO DRIVE HIM BACK TO OREGON IN THE HEARSE.
WHAT AN ADVENTURE WE HAD.
I'LL SOON BEGIN POSTING THE HIGHLIGHTS OF THAT TRIP.

PLEASE CLICK ON THE "COMMENTS" BELOW AND LEAVE FEEDBACK. IT IS APPRECIATED.

I remember the Hudson being purple with a urinal on the back door. Is that fact or a product of a '70's memory?

NO, IT WAS BLACK UNTILL IT'S LAST DAY ON PEI. WE PAINTED IT LIME GREEN THE NIGHT BEFORE KNEES AND I LEFT ON THE CROSS CONTINENT TRIP.
THE URINAL WAS NOT ON THE BACK DOOR, IT WAS ON THE WALL AND WAS USED TO HOLD FOOD. I DIDN'T THINK ANYONE REMEMBERED THE URINAL.I BOUGHT IT IN DAYTONA BEACH, THE PLASTIC URINAL THAT IS.

Awesome reading, it brings back the memories of the clincking of bottles, the smell of grease, the reving of the engines and the sounds of laughter. Thanks

P. S. I couldn't wait to sleep in the hearse. I don't think I made it all night through because someone told me ghost stories.....

Knee's daughter Jenny and her fiance joined me for a nostalgic tour of Parkdale. We went to the home on Mt Edward Road to the "36" ,past the old car club, Lily Pond. Then we stopped in to see Ged & Graham at their new apt.
We then went over to Andrew's Lodge to see Little Ears mother.
We came back to our house nad they read letters that I kept from Knee's and a telegram he sent me. I enjoyed watching her read them.
She sure looks like her Dad.
I am very thankful to meet them.
We plan on a BBQ for monday.

When I sold the Hearse to a guy named Issac in B.C. I looked to see the penny was still their.

What stories you have to tell, Pex! You're as good of a storyteller online as you are in person - ET Concentrator's Blogspot is everything I expected and more! Now there are faces to names and pictures to stories - you have transported us back to the day and time does not exist --- keep it up, I'll be back and in the meantime will do some advertising!

PS I like the business card/helping distressed motorists idea...and your hearse wasn't too shabby either :)

From "spotted neon"
(would I have ever got into your club with the state of my car? or would you have given me your business card ;)

E.T. Concentrators were always suckers for a Damsel in distress. We would have rebuilt your car on the side of the road for just a smile.

I know a lot of the names and guys as does Ben and i laugh everytime i see that hearse, now that does bring back memories, use to make me feel eerie every time i saw you coming down a street in it, could never figgure out why a guy would want to drive around in a car that only dead ppl should lol but that was Pex you havent't changed a bit and i hope you never do. Your site is great Pex and brings back a lot of great memories. Heather was telling me this morning about Jenn and her boyfriend, what a memorable time she must of had and the memories she will bring back home with her, what a fantastic thing you did for them while here on the Island, KEEP UP THIS GREAT SITE

Pex saying "Hang on to Gus until I back out of the driveway. I don't want to get blood on the tires". That's another foggy memory of mine from the days of the hearse. Plus the reason I remembered the urinal in your hearse was because I thought it was very irreverent and that made you "cool".

Pex:

Thanks for the memories. I had kind of forgot what The Hearse looked like. It brought back old times in high school with yourself and Rugged Knees. I don't know how many remember but Pex was the valedictorian for our grade 12 graduating class. He was voted by the student body. Shows how much respect the students had for him.

Keep up the good work.

Carl, that was quite a time in history and in small Parkdale. I grew up there and didn't even know the real goings on. It is wonderful to have the memories, the pictures and momentoes to keep you going and I am looking forward to more updates. I am sure Parkdale was never the same after your club was struck, and I can certanly relate to going bsck to school with Frank Costello as Principal. Keep up the good work!!

Hi Carl aka Pex,
its Spotted Car here!
For some reason or another
i cant post a message on your site
but I will email you!
I took a couple pics in Lunenburg
just for you - remembering the great
ideas you had at Christmas time
I wonder what the reactions would have been?
We should've followed through with it
and planted a videocamera!

Your chapters of stories are great!
They keep you on the edge of your seat
wondering what's going to happen next?
and thinking "i can't believe it!"
All that trouble with the law enforcers
perhaps because of the colOURS you
were displaying (gold for hair?????!!!!
a lime green hearse!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've never seen
the likes!)
Jeff likes these Volkswagon commercials
on the www.youtube.com where the fellow
"unpimps your automobile - vdub"
making fun of the show "pimp your ride" i think
http://www.youtube.com/results?search_type=search_videos&search_sort=relevance&search_query=VW+unpimp
anyway, sounds like you pimped your ride, if i may say
I hope the fellow that bought your hearse never turned it over
to the funeral home again cause that would raise a few eyebrows,
wouldnt it!!!!!!!!

Thanks for sharing your stories
I know those were special times!

see you on Sunday!
i hope you like these pics!

Angela

PS do you know that there were lime green neons, too!? Maybe Plymouth got the idea from you!
